“Breathtaking!”

Mountain Vistas. My wife and I wanted a multi-day Rockies experience from Denver, and are so glad that we found Colorado Highland Tours and our expert guide, David Rutherford, who hails from the area and knows much local history and countless points of interest.

Five days was the right length for us, and boy, did we cover a lot of ground (both horizontally and vertically)! Views from Pikes Peak, Mount Evans, several passes, and six crossings of the Continental Divide were just breathtaking. The almost daily sightings of major wildlife (moose, elk, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, marmots) were also a wonder to behold. MUCH snow was still visible at higher elevations - though not blocking the roads, thankfully - in late June / early July.

Importantly, the four towns where we overnighted had good restaurants/bars, modern amenities, and plenty of charm. Bring a good camera, comfortable shoes, and a couple of extra layers of clothing, especially for the highest peaks, which can be cold/windy even in summer. Most of the tour is by car/van, with regular stops and a few optional hikes thrown in. (Not knowing the area or its many high, winding roads, I decided early that I would leave the driving to a local expert and enjoy the scenery myself.)

Highly recommended if you're looking for a relaxing, informative, and scenic Rockies getaway!

“Very Enjoyable”

Rocky Mountain National Park. Our tour guide's knowledge of the area combined with personal experiences and stories made for a very enjoyable time. There are plenty of opportunities to stop and take pictures. You will see beautiful mountains and lakes along with the animals that live in the National Parks. Our tour guide recommended the best places to eat and shop and could answer most any questions asked about the places we visited.

“I Would Tell Anyone, Take the Tour”

Rocky Mountain National Park. The guide made a point of stopping at all the view points and giving us the time we needed to enjoy them. He was very nice and new his facts about the area. The stop in Central City was exciting, with a visit of the Opera House, the face on the floor and the casino. I would tell anyone, that if you have not seen the Parks but would like to, take the CoHighland tours.

“Every Moment was Enjoyable”

Lakes, Rivers & Canyons. The tour was a highlight of our trip to Colorado. David the tour operator was friendly, always put our interests first, he went out of his way to ensure every moment of our trip was enjoyable. He had a wonderful knowledge gleaned from his growing up in the area but above all he had a sense of humour that always left us with a smile. This tour would be cherished by anyone with a few days to spare to see and learn about the area and its beauty.

“Spectacular Scenery”

Lakes, Rivers & Canyons. We had a wonderful three day tour with spectacular scenery in perfect weather. David was an excellent driver and guide. Having grown up in these mountains, he has a huge knowledge and obvious affection for the area, that made the tour a real treat. I would thoroughly recommend Colorado Highland Tours as a way of getting to remote areas and seeing awesome sights, guided by an experienced and interesting local.

“We Saw Things We Wouldn’t Have”

RMNP & Hot Springs Tours (back-to-back). David was our tour guide. He has generations of family history in Colorado so he’s very knowledgeable in all aspects of the state. The tour was very personable, the itinerary flexible according to our interest. We saw things that we never would’ve seen on another tour such as a big bus tour. Definitely would do the other tours.

“Above and Beyond”

Lakes, Rivers & Canyons (custom large-group tour). This tour was excellent and we couldn’t ask for a better guide than David. He was in charge of nearly 50 people and during the whole time he was patient, enthusiastic, helpful, and knowledgeable. He definitely went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great time. Our driver was also excellant! This tour was definitley worth your time and money.

The Colorado Mountains are so vast, and people’s time is so short, a curated tour through the highlands is the perfect way to spend a precious few days at the top of the world.
